Often featured in promotional pics of Salzburg, the geometrical Baroque Mirabell Garden benefits from its envious position in the heart of the city and the eye-catching backdrops provided by the castle and the cathedral. The design of the garden, which dates from 1690, revolves around a large parterre with a central fountain and a small parterre with the seventeenth century Pegasus fountain. In The Sound of Music, Maria and the children dance around the Pegasus fountain behind Mirabell Palace, singing the song "Do-Re-Mi".
