Trinity Church Square, South London

Spring time adds extra splendour to Trinity Church Square - one of south London's finest old neighbourhoods, dating from the early nineteenth century. Pevsner’s guide to South London describes Trinity Church Square as “an admirably complete composition” - the terraces to the east, south and west are almost completely identical.  Soon after it was built, the square and the neighbouring Merrick Square had become a comparatively wealthy oasis amongst a sea of poverty (in the words of Southwark Council's conservation report), as the Borough was becoming one of the most squalid and overcrowded areas in London.
